A court in the upper Mararaba region of Nasarawa state on Thursday ordered a housewife, Maryam Abdulmalik, to return N85,000 in cash to her ex-husband, Sani Idris.
The judge, Mohammed Jibril, who issued the order, also ordered Abdulmalik to return the unsewn wrappers he had bought for her as a gift.
Mr Abdulmalik, in a divorce petition, told the court that she was no longer in love with Idris.
The judge ordered Idris to allow his wife to take her belongings out of her house.
Jibril adjourned the case until October 4 for dissolution of the marriage.
Earlier, Abdulmalik said that she married Idris in January 2020 under Islamic rights in Rugan Maliki, Mararaba Gurku, Nasarawa State.
“I live with my husband for a year and a few months.
“He doesn’t care about me. I am
willing to pay for my redemption in accordance with the procedures and practices of Islamic law because I have no feelings for him,” she said.
She asked the court to dissolve the union.
Idris, who was present in court, pleaded with his wife not to divorce him, saying he still loves her so much.
“I spent a lot of money on my wife and her family.
“I gave him 85,000 naira, bought his wrappers and even helped his parents on the farm,” he said.
