Liberia: NEC discloses government cash payment

The National Election Commission (NEC) said the government of Liberia has started releasing funds from the balance of the US 3.5 million from the conduct of the December 8, 2020 special senatorial elections.

National Election Commission Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah said the government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, on Friday started the process of transferring US $ 500,000 to the NEC.

The President, Ms Browne Lansanah, said that as soon as this process is completed and the money is transferred to the Commission’s account, the process of paying debts to local and international vendors, who have rendered services to the NEC during 2020 Special Senate Elections, SSE, will begin.

However, the NEC expects that the government will soon transfer the balance of funds to the NEC.

The chairman of the National Election Commission made the disclosure on Friday, April 30, 2021 following the five-day internal conference on lessons learned from the special senatorial elections and constitutional referendum on December 8, 2020 in Buchanan City, County. from Grand Bassa.

Ms Browne Lansanah pledged that the recommendations of the lessons learned conference, which among other things called for the timely submission of the Commission budget to the authorities, would be fully implemented.
