MORE than a million Irish people will benefit as a DOUBLE weekly welfare payment will be paid into accounts from TODAY.
The fall cost of living payment is the first of several new lump sum increases in the 2023 budget and will be paid to 1.4 million people this week.
Social Care Minister Heather Humphreys said carers, people with disabilities, OAPs and families will benefit from the various aids.
Some 95,000 retirees, 136,000 job seekers and 41,000 One Parent Family Payment recipients will receive the Autumn Double Cost of Living Payment today.
Minister Humphreys said: “Cost of living pressures are affecting the lives of people across the country.
“As Minister of Social Protection, my priority is to support the people most affected by the cost of living.
“That is exactly why I am announcing today the first of eight lump sum payments by Christmas.
“These will be so important in supporting our pensioners, carers, disabled people and working families.
“This week’s double payout will support 1.4 million people statewide.
“And it will be followed by further aid next month, including a €400 lump sum payment for Fuel Allowance recipients and a €200 lump sum payment for Living Alone Allowance recipients.

“As well as the round of lump sum payments, I was delighted to also secure a major expansion of the fuel allowance program – which will see up to 81,000 new households covered for their fuel costs for the first times, as well as throughout the country – the social pension increases by €12 per week. These measures will take effect from January 2023.”
